Dinamika Konflik Sosial Antar Generasi dalam Serial Netflix Cobra Kai

Juliant Renditia Hardi

Abstract

The phenomenon of intergenerational social conflict has become increasingly visible in the modern era due to differences in values, lifestyles, and perspectives toward social transformation and technological advancement. This study aims to analyze the representation of intergenerational conflict in the Netflix series Cobra Kai through Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The method used is qualitative descriptive, employing observation and documentation of scenes and dialogues that depict conflicts of values and philosophies between generations. The results reveal that this conflict is portrayed through interactions among characters, reflecting differences in mindset and adaptability. This representation is also evident in the ideological opposition between the Cobra Kai dojo, known for its aggressive and competitive approach, and Miyagi-Do, which emphasizes balance and wisdom. The semiotic analysis shows that the connotative meaning behind this conflict actually represents a broader social reality, encompassing challenges in intergenerational communication, shifting values over time, and efforts to maintain social harmony. It can be concluded that Cobra Kai not only portrays intergenerational conflict but also conveys a moral message emphasizing the importance of mutual understanding and respect for differences, reflecting the social dynamics present in modern society.
