Manajemen Impresi Protokol dalam Konstruksi Citra Pimpinan Daerah Banyumas
Abstract
This study examines how the Protocol Subdivision of Banyumas Regency supports the construction of the image of regional leaders in official government events. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with protocol officers, field observations, and supporting documents during the leadership transition from the Regent and Deputy Regent to the Acting Regent. The analysis employed Jones and Pittman’s impression management tactics as coding categories, while Goffman’s dramaturgy was used to interpret front stage, back stage, audience, performance team, and impression failure. The findings show that ingratiation and self-promotion are the most prominent tactics, appearing through arrangements of public interaction, local symbols, visual documentation, achievement narratives, and symbolic moments in official events. Exemplification, supplication, and intimidation were not prominent in the data. This study contributes to government communication studies by positioning protocol as a strategic actor in managing leadership representation, while acknowledging that the findings are limited to the internal perspective of protocol officers.
